Newborn Photography
Designed for busy families.

Built to become heirlooms

Expecting a baby in Charlotte, Fort Mill, or the surrounding area?  This is usually the part of the process where most photographers hand you a camera-ready checklist and ask you to figure out the rest. Wardrobe, props, files, prints, frames, where to hang them — all of it your project.

That's not how we work.

The Newborn Legacy Session is designed around one principle: you should not be doing logistics in your first weeks postpartum. We handle the wardrobe before baby arrives. We design the artwork. We deliver and install the finished pieces. Your only job is to recover and meet your baby.

Twenty years and thousands of newborns later, I've built a four-step process that takes the project off your plate and delivers heirloom artwork already hanging in your home — usually before the maternity-leave fog has lifted.

The full-service, NEWBORN photography Process

Before your baby arrives we meet -in studio or by video whatever fits your schedule and talk though your vision. We want your portraits to live in the home you're in and the ones you’ll move into next. The studio's wardrobe collection covers newborns and moms, so you don't shop for anything. You don't pin anything. You don't decide alone.

Before your portrait session: The Plan

Planning, WARDROBE & design consultation

1.

Inquire About Your Session

The day of the session, you bring three things: the baby, a few diapers, and a bottle if you're not nursing. That's it. (Nursing moms — no need to pump and pack ahead. You and baby together is what we work around.) The studio is warmed, the wardrobe is hung, the wraps, props, and backdrops are staged. We work entirely around your baby's rhythm — feeds, naps, fusses, all of it. Most parents leave feeling calmer than they expected to.

The portrait Session: Effortless

Just bring your baby

2.

A week or two after your session, you return to the studio to see your final images and finalize your collection. This is the part most parents dread elsewhere — sorting through hundreds of files alone, trying to figure out what to do with them. We don't do it that way. We curate. We show your images at the size they'll live on your walls. We help you choose pieces that match the rooms in your home now and will look beautiful displayed for years to come.
Most families invest between $2,500 and $5,000 in finished heirloom artwork — professionally printed, framed, and mounted by a master printer, archivally finished to last generations.

Choosing Your Artwork: Curated, Not Overwhelming

Designing your finished artwork

3.

Hanging artwork is not what you should be doing in your baby's first months. So we don't ask you to. When your finished pieces are ready, we bring them to your home and install them ourselves — level, secure, perfectly aligned, in the rooms we planned for from the very beginning. The first time you see your finished newborn artwork is on your own walls, where it belongs. Not in a box on the doorstep. Not propped against a closet wall waiting for "someday."
This is the part most photographers in Charlotte don't offer. It's also the part past clients tell their friends about.

When should I book my newborn session?

Frequently Asked questions?

Newborns photograph beautifully in the first 5–14 days of life — a window so short that we typically book families during the second trimester to guarantee studio availability around your due date. If you're past that window or your baby is already here, reach out anyway. We can sometimes accommodate.

Do you photograph siblings and parents too?

Yes. The Newborn Legacy Session includes time for the whole family — siblings, parents, grandparents, and every combination of loved ones holding your baby. We plan these together before your due date so nothing feels rushed.

What if I already have a baby and missed the newborn window?

Reach out anyway. It's never the wrong time for a baby portrait and family portrait sessions at any age are welcome.  You'll get the same full-service model applies — wardrobe, design, finished artwork, and installation.

What does the Newborn Legacy Session investment look like?

Most families invest between $2,500 and $5,000 in the complete experience, which includes design consultation, wardrobe, styling, the session itself, hand-printed and framed heirloom artwork, and in-home installation. Everything from the first call to the delivered artwork. We'll walk you through pricing in detail and customize the plan for you.

How long is the session?

Most newborn sessions run 2–3 hours. We work entirely around your baby's natural rhythm — feeds, naps, and all — which is why most parents leave feeling calmer than they expected.

Newborn photoshoots are scheduled Monday-Friday mornings.

What if my baby comes early or late?

Babies arrive when they are ready. We hold a flexible scheduling window for every booked family — when your baby arrives, you call us, and we schedule your session within the right newborn window.

Where is your studio?

The Insley Photography studio is located at 534 Rivercrossing dr in Fort Mill, SC — about 15 minutes south of Charlotte, NC. Easy parking right out front, and stroller accessible for new parents of a newborn.

We had an amazing experience with Alicia and gorgeous photos of our son that we will treasure forever. Alicia was so great at listening to our ideas and incorporating some really meaningful details for us.

Alicia is amazing!! The entire experience with Alicia was easy, fun, and pure bliss!! She is professional, patient, prompt, and has an eye for getting the best shot! We worked with her for maternity and newborn pictures.

My husband and I were worried that our daughter would be fussy or not corporate during the photo shoot, but with Alicia's baby skills, our daughter was a complete angel! She was so patient and took great care of our daughter and our 2 year old son. My son only wanted to play basketball during the photo shoot and Alicia used that to her advantage. She was able to capture his smile and sweet sibling pictures as well as family pictures by playing basketball with him while taking pictures!!

After taking time to edit the pictures, she came to my house to show them to me in person. The quality of her work is superb!!! We have amazing pictures that we will cherish for forever!

My experience with Alicia Insely Smith has been AMAZING and I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for family, maternity, and newborn pictures!!
