why moms trust Insley photography

For over 20 years, I’ve helped Charlotte and Fort Mill moms celebrate this fleeting season with portraits that feel both elegant and authentic. From wardrobe to posing, every detail is thoughtfully planned so you can simply relax —feeling beautiful, confident, and truly seen.

The maternity Legacy portrait experience

A concierge experience where every detail is handled, every moment is guided, and nothing is left for you to figure out.

We start with a planning consultation — in person at the studio or over zoom — where we go through everything. What to expect, what to wear, what you love and what you don't. You'll try on pieces from the studio closet, we'll talk through your vision, and if a partner is joining you I'll help coordinate their look too so everything feels cohesive. You leave knowing exactly what to expect and feeling genuinely prepared.

before your session

our process

feel beautiful at every angle

On the day of your session, you arrive at the studio and we take care of the rest. One of our recommended professional hair and makeup artists will meet you here — you choose who you love from our curated list and arrange with them directly. By the time I pick up a camera, you already feel like yourself, just elevated. Sessions typically run one and a half to two and a half hours start to finish depending on your vision.

getting ready

You don't need to know how to pose. That's my job. I'll guide you through every angle, every expression, every moment — so you're never standing there wondering what to do with your hands. You just show up and let yourself be photographed.

About a week after your session we will get together and you will see your portraits for the first time. For your wall art, I'll have my favorites digitally mocked up on photos of your actual walls, measured true to size, so you can see exactly how they'll look in your home before you commit to anything.

Once your order is placed, I handle delivery — and if you're doing wall art, installation too. You never have to figure out where to hang it or whether it's the right size. It arrives on your wall, exactly where it belongs.

These portraits become more than photographs; they are reminders of your strength, your beauty, and this incredible season of motherhood.

How far in advance should I book My maternity session?

Frequently Asked questions?

Book as early as your second trimester if you can. Your session itself should take place between 28 and 36 weeks — when your bump is beautifully round but before the final stretch when energy dips and we tend to retain more water. It's never too early to reach out, and the only time it's truly too late is after your baby arrives.

What should I wear?

We figure this out together at your planning consultation. You'll have access to the studio closet — pieces chosen specifically for maternity sessions — and we'll talk through what you already own, what feels like you, and what will photograph beautifully. If your partner or children are joining you I'll help coordinate their looks too so everything feels cohesive. You won't be left guessing.

What about hair and makeup?

I have a curated list of professional hair and makeup artists who know the studio, understand the lighting, have experience with expecting mommas and are wonderful to work with. You choose who you love and arrange with them directly. They'll meet you at the studio before your session so by the time I pick up a camera you already feel like yourself, just elevated.

Do you have a studio?

The Insley Photography studio is located at 534 Rivercrossing dr in Fort Mill, SC —Fort Mill, SC studio, just ten minutes from Charlotte, NC near I-77. The studio is temperature controlled, fully stocked with everything you could need, and a much more comfortable setting for expecting moms than outdoor locations — especially in a Carolina summer. Occasionally sessions move outside for a specific look but the studio is home base.

Why should I do wall art for a maternity portrait?

Because your children will grow up seeing it. A few years ago my then eight year old defended my maternity portrait of him on our wall and with such pride it stopped me in my tracks. He had no idea what it meant when I hung it — but he grew up knowing without anyone telling him that he was wanted, waited for, and loved before he was even born. That's what wall art does that a digital photo never can. I wrote about that moment on the blog — if you want to read it, it's linked below.

Should I include my partner and/or older children?

Absolutely — and there's no extra charge for them. Your partner and children are part of your motherhood story. These are the people who wanted this baby, waited for this baby, and will love this child for the rest of their lives. Including them in your portraits creates something your whole family will treasure. One of the most powerful things about maternity wall art is a visual statement, it says to your children over the years — without saying a word, they grow up knowing they were wanted, prayed for, and cherished before they ever took their first breath.

What if I'm not sure how to pose?

That's my job, I got you. I'll guide you through every angle and expression so you're never standing there wondering what to do with your hands. Most moms come in nervous — and that's completely normal, especially when you're navigating a changing body. But by the end of the session they've seen a couple glimpses on the back of the camera and know something beautiful has been created. You don't need experience in front of a camera — you just need to show up.

Still have questions?

I'm an open book fill out the form below  and I'll give you a call.

Do you offer evening sessions?

Yes — and this is something a lot of working moms don't realize. Because we shoot in the studio I'm not limited by daylight, which means evening sessions are available during the week. You can come in after work without taking time off or rearranging your schedule.

Yes, retouching is part of the process — and we'll talk through exactly what that means for you at both your planning consultation and your reveal. I'll show you examples so we land on the right level together. The goal is always that you look like the most beautiful version of yourself, never fake or plastic. This is about capturing your motherhood journey authentically — just beautifully lit and thoughtfully finished.

What about retouching?

How much does a maternity session cost?

Your experience begins with a $600 commission fee which reserves your date and includes your planning consultation, your portrait session, your reveal and ordering appointment, $300 toward your wall art or album order, and archiving of your purchased images. Yes — and many of my maternity clients come back for newborn portraits after their baby arrives. If you're thinking about both, it's worth mentioning when you reach out so we can talk through timing and planning together. You can learn more about newborn sessions here.. They are best captured between 5-14 days old

Meet Alicia

 Your Charlotte Maternity Photographer

My love for maternity photography started in college, long before I became a mother myself. A classmate created a portrait of a mom to be that stopped me in my tracks — she was glowing, ethereal, and there was something about her strength that I couldn't look away from. I knew then that this was something worth dedicating myself to.

Years later I became a boy mom of two — and this season became even more personal. I know firsthand how miraculous and fleeting pregnancy is. I also know it doesn't always follow the expected timeline. My first son arrived the Monday before my maternity session was scheduled for him. I never got those portraits. It's one of the reasons I always say — don't wait too long. Babies have a way of arriving when they're ready.

My goal in every session is simple: to help you feel beautiful, seen, and celebrated in this moment. Serving families in Fort Mill, SC, Charlotte, NC, and beyond.
