Patti Rumsey: Bio
I first got interested in being a doula after my second child’s birth in 1995. However, I didn’t start training until 6 years later and by then I had 3 children. The first being born in a birth center, second in a hospital, and the third and fourth at home. I was fortunate enough to land a job at Anderson Hospital in Anderson, SC where I worked for 3 years and attended over 300 births. This experience was one of the best times of my life. I went on to practice privately for a couple of years and had many enjoyable experiences.
In 2008 I decided to pursue my undergraduate degree, going part time, I graduated in 2015 with a BSW (Bachelors of Social Work). After graduation my mother became very ill and I took on the role of caregiver for her. I really thought my doula days were behind me, but periodically I would get a call from past clients and there I’d be again, in the middle of the night, rubbing a laboring Momma’s shoulders. In the back of my mind the hope of one day again being a doula has never left me. My education backed up what my instincts had always told me; Doulas are necessary to a family as well as a community’s health and wellbeing.
I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart for 30 years and we now have a granddaughter. We have lived in Fort Mill, SC for 18 months with our 3 daughters, 2 in high school and the other a newly engaged senior at Winthrop University. We previously lived in Greenville, SC for 27 years before coming to Fort Mill for a corporate relocation.
After 15 years of helping families I am still humbled and privileged to watch birth journeys unfold and families have the experience of a lifetime. I can be reached by email at: PRDoula@gmail.com or phone at 864.907.3755. Her website is https://www.myinstinctivebirth.com
